The Northumberland Lay Preachers and Worship Groups Meeting gathered at Erskine URC in Belford North Northumberland Saturday October 31st.
After a welcoming cuppa and prayers led by local preachers and Elders at Erskine, Ann Tunnard and Lisa Wilson, the afternoon was led by Dave Herbert.
David focussed on models of ecumenical co-operation in small rural congregations across north Northumberland, highlighting an increasing reliance on regular public worship being lay led. He emphasised that this can be seen as a positive trend, and to be celebrated, encouraging more active participation in worship across our congregations, and a release of many gifts. The huge impact of TLS in such developments was noted. The gathering split into smaller groups, and then shared their experiences and reflections in a very encouraging and helpful way.
The afternoon closed with Holy Communion, which further enhanced the sense of deep fellowship and mutual support this gathering has nurtured in these parts for a long time now. It was a delight to have local preachers from the Methodist church among us too, bringing a very helpful ecumenical perspective to bear.
All in all an afternoon of mutual encouragement, reflection, worship and fellowship.
