A new year has seen a new Messy Church initiative starting up at Wooler – with support from Northern Synod, and with helpers drawn from a variety of local churches including our own.
As one helper describes it, “Our first event exceeded all our expectations!” 64 people turned up – 24 adults and 40 children – and all enjoyed crafts, a bible story, songs and prayer based around the story of Noah: ‘A fresh start’. This was followed by pasta, sauce and garlic bread for everyone (with an emergency dash to stock up at the Co-op). And it appears that very few of the participants had any previous connection with the local churches.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Facebook comments have been very positive and there have been several enquiries about the next event. The planning group have come away with several learning points, not least the need for a larger venue next time, and they are already planning the next Messy Church session for Palm Sunday.
And they have voiced their thanks for all who have been supporting the venture both financially, in encouragement and advice, and above all in prayer.
