Jenny Medhurst has just reported another successful season with the Middlesbrough Traidcraft shop.
The shop in Dundas Street took just over £31,000 in the run-up to Christmas – nearly as much as last season, despite this including a difficult time for Jenny herself. At the end of it she reports herself well satisfied!
And she adds “We were delighted too to meet delighted customers new to Fairtrade- and to hear the appreciation of many of our customers for the beauty and skills behind so many of the gifts we sell.”
Each year Northern Synod provides an interest-free start-up loan to launch the shop, which Jenny says is appreciated not just as a practical help with the cashflow, but also as a wonderful gesture of solidarity.
And (gentle reminder to us all) she says “I need to stocktake in a freezing garage and get geared up for Fairtrade Fortnight!”
