Synod Mission Committe convenor Meg Robb introduces material for our churches, marking the beginning of Lent and the run-up to the General Election
Many of you will have read the article in the February edition of your church magazine regarding the how the church can become involved in the run up to the General Election. If you haven`t then please find it on our synod website.
Members of your Synod Mission Committee hope that you will arrange or get involved in local hustings. Perhaps you could work with your local Churches Together group and really begin to make an impact and ensure that your local candidates are aware of what sort of society we, as Christians, would like to see.
Alongside the article is another resource to aid you in this – Your Kingdom come, Your will be done. Helen Stephenson, Church Related Community Worker in Sunderland, and an ecumenical colleague of hers have produced some material for use during Lent which will help you in your thinking about how the Church can play its part.
A book to be recommended is `Rock or Sand` a collection of essays edited by Archbishop of York, John Sentamu.
Some informative websites are listed at the foot of this page.
Hopefully there will be more information posted on the website after Melanie Campbell, our synod clerk, and I have attended the Love your Neighbour Conference – Think, Pray, Vote which will be held on Saturday 21st February in Coventry. This event is organised by JPIT Joint Public Issue Team. So please look out for what comes out of this day.
And, of course, please try to get this issue on your church`s agenda… in good time to act before the General Election.
