Synod TalentLow Row elder Daphne Clarke recently achieved a long-held ambition to tread the boards of the Georgian Theatre in her home town of Richmond.
The occasion was the November 2009 "Richmondshire has Talent" competition, in which Daphne was awarded second place and a cheque for £150.
There were only two poets in the original field of 38 acts, and Daphne was the only one to have a place in the finals. Over the three performances she read six of her own poems, some of which were humorous and others more thoughtful in character.
However, the one that everyone remembers was "The Obesity Rap" - perhaps because Daphne encouraged the audience to join in. Her original inspiration was the sight of a mother and her young son in Richmond Market Place, both seriously snacking.
