Salary: Minister’s Stipend
General Assembly wishes to appoint a United Reformed Minister to serve as Moderator in the Northern Synod. The synod is one of the smallest within the denomination but offers great variety: it extends from North Northumberland to the North Yorkshire Dales and across to the fringes of the Lake District, encompassing the major urban areas of Newcastle, Sunderland, Durham, Darlington & Teesside. These different communities have distinctive identities and strong traditions. People here are proud of their heritage but are also working to create new opportunities and build a better future.
Over the past two years, the Synod has been moving forward. Simpler committee structures have been put in place and there is a committed and active Executive Committee who are working hard to formulate a new strategy for the Synod. There is an open dialogue with the Churches which is contributing to positive developments. The Synod is now seeking a new leader who possesses the gifts to work collaboratively with our 69 churches and can bring energy, vision and commitment. The role requires someone of pastoral warmth, who will be able to steer churches sensitively, towards finding creative solutions to challenging situations. Applicants should have a track record of engagement with social justice issues, and be passionate about dealing with the inequities facing some of our communities. Overall, applicants need to demonstrate that they have the gifts to provide spiritual & pastoral oversight, combined with diplomacy and wisdom.
