Despite all the things we say about diversity, I do worry about the sameness of our congregations.
But does this extract from Barnard Castle’s church magazine give us any cause for hope, I wonder? At least it seemed to me worth sharing more widely….
(And I’m sorry I’m posting a week after the Feast of St Francis.)
Dede the Guide Dog
On 20 September our canine church member, Dede, Suzanne’s guide dog, made her last visit to church in a working capacity. She has retired and will live in Cotherstone from now on, with friends of Suzanne, so they will be able to see each other in future.
Dede has been the perfect church member. She greeted all those who sat near her as they arrived, with enthusiastic tail-wagging. She never whined at the hymns, growled at the sermons, or grew restive at the length of services. She never complained about not hearing – because she took a nap! She waited patiently for her biscuit at teatime, and never dropped crumbs.
We shall all miss her. Suzanne will get a new guide dog, Zia, very soon and we look forward to meeting her.
