In time for Christmas, here is a short book by Ruth Crofton, one of our retired synod ministers. “A Dead Man’s Gift” presents a new take on the gospel story of the wise men’s visit to the infant Jesus.
Ruth writes: “I have always thought that surely the wise men would have used guides, and my own travels in the Middle East have confirmed this, and suggest that these may have been Nabateans, a people with a massive knowledge of the desert routes who led camel trains of merchants and travellers. Hence the story is told in the words of an old man looking back over years as a leader of camel trains and remembering this out-of-the-ordinary journey from his youth.”
Cost is £5, with half the profit going to the Waddington Street Centre, Durham, a charity resource for folk with long-term mental health problems.
Ruth Crofton is a retired URC minister living near Durham.
